GRAND THEFT BASEBALL

SHORT GAME QUICK HITTERS

BUNTING
Base-Hit
-       Get up and in w/ plate coverage and more fair territory
-       Bunt strikes
-       Bunt top of the baseball
-       Adjust with your knees and keep barrel above the knob
-       Show bunt at release point
-       Body movement towards 1B
-       Bunt to within 2’ of line or foul
-       Try to make corner IF field the bunt
-       Hands guide the direction of the baseball (bottom hand is rudder hand)

Sacrifice
-       Get up and in w/ plate coverage and more fair territory
-       Bunt strikes
-       Bunt top of the baseball
-       Adjust with your knees and keep barrel above the knob
-       Show bunt at hand separation
-       Bunt ball to 3 hole or 5 hole (between corner and middle IF’s)
-       Hands guide the direction of the baseball (bottom hand is rudder hand)

Squeeze
-       Get up and in w/ plate coverage and more fair territory
-       Bunt everything
-       Bunt top of the baseball “get it down”
-       Show bunt at hand separation
-       Stay in the box and get the ball down (do not try and be safe and come out early)

BASE RUNNING
Batted Balls
-       Look to take an extra base
-       Turns-  as far as you can get HARD!
-       Aggressive mindset!  How am I going to get to that next base
-       Know where IF’s and OF’s are positioned (what is dropping / what is getting thru)
-       3B coach is a stop sign / always expect to score
-       Reading balls in front of you (player is his own base coach)
-       Verbal cues from base coaches
-       Coach will always keep you coming around base if ball is in OF (may give late BACK!)

Leads/Steals
-       1B-  Primary/Secondary/Dive-Backs
              o   Big left, big right, lead step, lead step, ½ lead step (eyes on ball)
              o   Toe and foot open / get knee over front ft.  / left heel off ground
-       2B-  Primary/Secondary/Dive-Backs
              o   Work from behind baseline (back to line w/ less than 2)
              o   Happy feet / baiting pitcher / green lights
-       3B-  Primary/Secondary
              o   Right, Left, Right (hard lean while watching pitch angle)
              o   Expect a passed ball on every pitch

Sliding
-       Teaches (both cheeks, hands in air, front heel up, ankle tucked under front knee)
-       Straight In, Pop-Up, Back-Door, Head First (reading the fielders eyes/positioning)
