April 30 - Rohan Mishra allowed one hit over 3.1 innings and Jake Drimmer went 2-for-2 with a pair of runs and three RBI to lead the DC Dynasty Navy 12u over the Fairfax Royals 12u, 13-3, in the first game of a doubleheader yesterday at Providence Field in Fairfax.

The Royals grabbed an early lead off Mishra on an RBI from Evan Swift that scored Penn Morris in the first inning. The Dynasty would tie the game in the second as Drimmer scored on an error off Royals starter Cash McDade.

The game would remain tied until the Dynasty would bat around and score nine runs in the fourth inning off relievers Gerald Martin and Andrew Perks. Drimmer and Woody Moore both had two-run singles and Matt Del Guercio, Wyatt Dunn, Leo Rossotto and Sasha Milius each had an RBI in the inning for the Dynasty.

“Once we started seeing the ball go into the outfield, everyone started paying attention and then we started to time up the pitcher,” Dynasty coach Brendan Kiviat said. “In this case, we got a couple balls to fall and it just kept rolling from there.”

McDade pitched three innings, allowing one run on two hits with five strikeouts for the Royals. Martin and Perks, who were making their first and third appearances of the season respectively, struggled in the middle innings, allowing 9 runs on eight hits. Owen Fischer allowed three runs in the final two innings.

“I couldn’t have been happier the way [McDade] started the game and we were in the game until that one inning,” Swift said. “Things came of the rails a bit. These things are going to happen. The guys are still learning the game and it’s a process out there.”

Mishra was pulled after allowing his first hit of the game, an RBI single from Perks in the fourth. The left-hander finished his outing allowing three runs (two earned) on one hit with five strikeouts. Drimmer and Moore would not allow a run in the final 2.2 innings in relief for the Dynasty.

“I really like how Rohan is critical of himself without letting it affect the way he pitches. He comes in and always has questions about the one at-bat that went wrong in the inning," Kiviat said. "I love when my starting pitcher has that curiosity and at the same time the confidence to keep going out there and throw strikes.”

“We couldn't even put balls in play,” Royals coach Matt Swift said. “[Mishra] had some pop and some secondary pitches that kept us off balance. Kudos to him, he pitched well.”

Zach Isaacs added to the Dynasty lead with a two-run triple in the fifth inning and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Drimmer, his third RBI of the game.

The Royals bounced back to beat the Dynasty, 13-7, in the second game. Perks went 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBI while Carter Spera and Colton Seefeldt combined to drive in four to pace the Royals. Drimmer went 1-for-2 with 2 RBI for the Dynasty.

Both teams will be in action next on Sunday as the the Royals will play in a doubleheader against the Alexandria Aces Navy 12u back at Providence Field while the Dynasty Navy will face the Dynamic Red in a twin bill at Guy Mason Recreation Center.
