Baseball hopes to return this summer in Northern Virginia! The Northern Virginia College League (NVCL) powered by the NVTBL plans to begin its inaugural season July 2 with as many as eight teams. The season will conclude on July 28 with a playoffs and championship ending on August 1.

The NVCL has had over 240 local college players from incoming freshmen to graduating seniors complete the interest form and the league anticipates to have six to eight teams with over 20 players per team. Each team will be drafted by selected coaches to create parity and ensure a competitive environment for every game. The league will host a virtual team announcement and draft party on May 28 at 7:30 PM. All are invited to participate. More details will be posted on Twitter and at NVTBLBaseball.org.

“We are very excited about being able to provide this opportunity for local college players,” said Rob Hahne, one of the league’s co-founders. “Our leadership team of Mark Gjormand, Scott Rowland and myself have been working on this project non-stop for almost 2 months. The unmatched baseball knowledge of coach Gjormand and coach Rowland along with a great deal of input from college coaches throughout the local area has allowed us to put together a non-profit league that puts all of the emphasis on the player. This will be such a unique experience for everyone and it starts with our draft which will create parity and a competitive environment and ensure winners will be determined on the field and not through recruiting. We hope everyone can join us for our virtual team draft party on May 28th.”

Teams will play five, seven-inning games per week on local fields in Northern Virginia during the regular season. Each player will have a minimum amount of playing time allocated to ensure players are continuing to develop and have fun. All pitchers will be on pitch counts throughout the season to protect their arm health. Players will be allowed to use NCAA-approved metal bats.

The NVCL is a non-profit league. The league will attempt to schedule back-to-back games to create a fan-friendly environment to watch elite level college baseball at no cost. Fans will only be allowed if permitted by local jurisdictions and health guidelines. Game productions and media coverage will be run by NVTBL staff and interns. The interest form to join the league will remain open until Friday, May 10th.
