Davian Peretti delivered the go-ahead run in the form of a ground ball that allowed courtesy runner Will Costello to score and give the Mizuno Outlaws Black 14u a 2-1 win over the NOVA Premier Blue 14u last night in a time shortened game at Greenbriar Park following a 30-minute lightning delay. 

Jacob Ramsey earned the win after entering the game in the fourth inning and retiring six of seven batters he faced with a pair of strikeouts. Ramsey followed up a strong outing from starting pitcher Jack Rampy, who allowed one run on three hits over three innings. 

“We needed that because we didn’t have a ton of guys ready to pitch for us today,” Outlaws coach Steve Mrowka said. “Rampy went three innings and mixed in three pitches. And he holds guys close which is key at this level. Ramsey came in a did a nice job throwing the ball and locating. He didn’t give up any walks and we made the plays.” 

Leadoff man Jackson Wiley was able to give the Outlaws an early lead in the first inning after drawing a walk and scoring on an RBI from Costello. Premier starter Evan Schick limited the damage to just the one run after escaping a bases loaded jam with a strikeout and lineout. The Premier later tied the game in the second on an RBI by Justin Goulet. 

The Outlaws would load the bases again in the fourth, however would have a runner thrown out at the plate to end the inning to keep the game knotted. Mike Norton and Rampy each collected a hit in the frame, counting for two of the Outlaws’ three hits in the game. 

Brendan Cowen, Dylan Smith and Brady Simonich each threw scoreless innings for the Premier in relief, allowing just two hits combined over three innings. Jack Beard worked to keep the game tied in the fifth, however back-to-back walks to start the inning set up the Outlaws to take the lead and eventually load the bases with one out. A clutch double play ended the inning and allowed the Premier a chance in the bottom half down a run.

Premier's Alec Jones found his way into scoring position after a two-out hit and a stolen base, however was left stranded by Ramsey. Jones reached base all three times he came to the plate for and his line drive in the fifth was the hardest hit ball of the night. 

The Outlaws will be in action next against the Virginia Bombers on Saturday while the Premier will face the Cadets Blue on Wednesday.
